Hey @Sara Wright ! You have a couple of options when going about a refund.
Option 1: Issue a credit on the client’s next invoice If the client is comfortable with this & the relationship allows for it, applying a credit is usually the simplest approach. This also gives you flexibility around Stripe’s processing fee. For example, you could credit only the amount you actually received so you’re not out the fee.
Option 2: Card refund through Stripe If the client needs their card refunded, I can take care of that for you. Just email me the client and payment details (lucas@scritches.io), and let me know whether it should be a full or partial refund. Refunds typically take about 5–10 days to show up back on the client’s card.
One thing to be aware of with option 2: Stripe’s processing fees aren’t returned. The fee will be deducted from your connected Stripe account. Also, if your balance is currently $0; you will see a negative balance, and Stripe will recover it from a future payment or automatically debit your connected bank account.
Let me know which route you’d like to take, and I’m happy to help.
